A five-year-old rescue dog continues to be lauded as a hero after waking his sick owner out of a medically-induced coma suffering from pneumonia following a battle with bowel cancer in a Southhampton hospital.

According to Yahoo News Andy Szasz, 65, the schnauzer-poodle mix named Teddy, had been given special permission to visit Andy in intensive care  in late December at the Southhampton General Hospital. Andy, a civil engineer, had adopted the dog from the RSPCA and had a very special bond. It is believed Teddy’s barking encouraged Andy to wake up three days before doctors had expected to bring him around. Szasz had been diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and beat the initial cancer, but had fallen ill in December when doctors had to induce him into a coma after he stopped breathing.

The adorable little pooch continued to help speed up his owner’s recovery and regularly visited Andy in the hospital.

“Ted is such a remarkable little dog in many ways. He’s clever, loving, loyal, funny and a right little character,” Andy stated. “He really stole my heart when we first met. I always tell people I rescued Ted and Ted rescued me. We certainly do have a special bond.”

Teddy’s incredible instincts even won him the RSPCA’s special award for Pets As Therapy in 2017. And now this little bundle of angelic good regularly visits hospitals, hospices, care homes and schools across the country. Andy says his dog puts smiles on everyone he meets, and in return, Ted loves to be cuddled.

It’s a win-win for everyone!
