Update: Per shelter, Riley was put down. Rest in peace Riley – you deserved better.

A young dog who managed to survive being attacked by a coyote is now at risk of being put down at a California animal control agency. The dog, dubbed Riley, was placed into quarantine at Riverside County Animal Services, but he is out of time and desperately needs a foster home to go to, or he will be put down.

Networking efforts are underway for the dog – a social media post explains the situation:

Sweetheart Riley was a attacked by a coyote and survived, but now his life is in different danger. Riley is under a 6 month (8/6/19) quarantine period following the attack, and needs local rescue in Riverside County for remaining quarantine period. The shelter will not hold him any longer, he can be euthanized today, Thursday 8/22.

From the shelter:

A1540902 was witnessed being attacked by a coyote. We are seeking foster or rescue that can keep him quarantined in Riverside County for rabies control. If someone steps forward for him, coordination will need to be made with our rabies control desk so that they can oversee his quarantine. This dog is status red, been at the shelter since 8/5, and at immediate risk of euthanasia.

Please help Riley!

Riley is in need of a local agency to take him in. If you are affiliated with a rescue group in Riverside County, please reach out to animal services to discuss saving Riley’s life.

  1. Riley is no longer listed. I suspect he was euthanized.

Precious treasure I absolutely know that you are in Heaven. Please look for MacKitty and join his wonderful snuggle buddies group and RIP amongst loving friends……..

    • I felt so helpless and horrible that Riley was euthanized for lack of a foster…… totally tragic that he was attacked (not his fault), had to be quarantined (not his fault), nowhere to go (not his fault) and all these factors = euthanized…….. poor precious little treasure, failed by so many humans…….
