Earlier this month, a “rare, exotic” animal was rescued from the backyard of a Riverside County, California home. The albino hedgehog was taken in by Riverside County Animal Services.

According to the animal welfare agency, hedgehogs are illegal in the state of California. But this little guy wasn’t out of luck. Riverside County Animal Services was able to place him with one of their rescue partners who has a permit to care of exotic pets.

Now Nic, short for one of the world’s most famous hedgehogs, Sonic (of Sega video game fame), can live out the remainder of his life with the care that he needs. Happy life Nic!
