A woman’s puppy had to have an ear amputated after a botched grooming appointment at a Petco store in Chattanooga, Tennessee. As reported by KCTV 5 News, five-month-old Baylee was sent home from the grooming salon with bows in her hair – but her owner realized that there was a terrible problem three days later when she went to remove them.
Angela Weeks discovered that one of Baylee’s ears was very swollen, and found out that the groomer hadn’t put the bows in her puppy’s fur. Instead, the bows were were on rubber bands that had been placed around Baylee’s ears, cutting off circulation. A veterinarian determined that the one badly damaged ear needed to be amputated.
After Weeks notified Petco, they agreed to refund the grooming bill, pay Baylee’s veterinary bill, in addition to $500 extra. The groomer who made the error has also been let go.
A statement from Petco reads:
We regret and take full responsibility for what happened to Baylee after visiting our grooming salon. At Petco, the health and safety of pets in our care is a responsibility we take very seriously.
After a thorough review of Baylee’s experience, it’s clear the groomer involved did not follow our animal care and safety policies. That groomer is no longer with Petco. As pet parents ourselves, we understand how distressing this experience has been for Baylee and her family. We’re committed to making it right and preventing this from happening again.
