In Vancouver, a family mourns the death of their puppy after he was left in the cargo hold of the plane for a five-day flight from China to Vancouver. When Dora arrived, she was dehydrated and starved and died shortly thereafter at an emergency veterinarian hospital.

According to News1130, the puppy’s owner, Jason Guo, had hired a Chinese company to transport his puppy.

“They promised us that the layovers will be short that they will provide adequate service, food and water for the animal during the layovers. That promise wasn’t fulfilled,” Guo stated.

Not only did Dora arrive dehydrated and starved, she also suffered from exhaustion and hypothermia.

Many airlines allow small dogs to travel in the cabin or in the baggage compartment as opposed to the cargo section of a airline, however restrictions are made by individual airlines.

Jason Guo has established the Dora Animal Protection Foundation.

“My Dora died due to food and water deprivation when traveling in the cargo hold of the airplanes. Her terrible death is a typical example of how animals are treated inhumanely. Therefore, I named the foundation after her name. I hope that through the Dora Animal Protection Foundation we will be able to work together to spread our message and voice for the protection of vulnerable animals and make change for their well-being.”

Rest in peace Dora.

  1. This is criminal! Their first mistake was trusting their puppy to the Chinese. Their disregard for animals is appalling! Yes some airlines allow pets to fly in the cabin where the flight attendant will tell you to put them in the upper suitcase bin and it will die (ask the owner of the French Bully that perished this way).. I don’t know what the answer is. 5 days in a cargo hold is absurd, I would be suing! I can’t imagine the heartbreak finding your precious pup like this after you have paid so much money for them to safely transport them to you!

  2. OMG that poor precious little treasure……. 5 days of pure torture……. why didn’t a family member take her ON THE PLANE as their carry on??? I have traveled all over the world and seen many puppies travel safely as their “pet parent’s” carry on……. 5 days of continuous travel would test ANY human, let alone a tiny terrified puppy in the cargo hold…….

There are some serious questions that must be answered for Dora to get justice…..

BTW: my family members and I have all traveled to/from Mainland China and San Francisco & even with layovers, (usually Tokyo or Hong Kong), our travel time is NOT five days…….

RIP Dora, please look for MacKitty in Heaven and join his wonderful snuggle buddies……..
