A puppy, left inside of a parked vehicle in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, was taken by the local police on Sunday after a passerby noticed him in the car without food or water. The puppy’s owner had gone skiing for the day and decided to leave his pup in the car while he was away.

The Cottonwood Heights Police Department posted a Tweet about the situation:

Dog left in a car at the Park and Ride while the owner enjoyed a day of skiing. We kept the dog warm with food/water at the office. Owner charged.

Before being removed from the car, the pup was exhibiting signs of distress. WGNO reports that the puppy was “agitated” and anxious. Officer Kevin Salmon of the Cottonwood Heights Police Department. “The dog was obviously wound up and agitated from being in the car.” The officer watched the pup for an hour, waiting for his owner to return, before accessing the vehicle and taking the puppy out.

As reported by KUTV News, the owner discovered that his puppy was missing when he returned to the vehicle in the early afternoon – when he called to report the situation to the police, he discovered that his Labradoodle pup was at the station. The man told the authorities that he did not want to leave his puppy at home because he feared that the barking would disturb his neighbors – it was the puppy’s barking which caught the attention of people at the park-and-ride, and ultimately, the authorities.

Eventually, the nine-month-old puppy was returned to the owner – though the initial Tweet indicated that the man would face charges, it was later clarified that he received a citation.

  1. Just another indication of people not doing their job, they should have pressed charges against the owner! Shame on them, they took the easy way out!

  2. Wow, thoughtless humans still don’t get the message about the dangers of leaving dogs in hot cars and now we have another problem – thoughtless humans with ice in their veins (maybe their brains if they had them). Why are humans such thoughtless, careless, totally selfish, self-centred creatures. There is no other creature on the planet so despicable in their attitude toward others.
I hope this jerk gets to spend the rest of his life without access to any animals.

  3. WHAT IS THE OWNER’S NAME SINCE HE ENJOYED SKIING WHILE HIS DOG IS FREEZING IN THE CAR. IT IS ABOUT TIME THESE IDIOTS ARE EMBARRASSED UNLESS THEY DON’T HAVE A BRAIN LIKE THIS ASSHOLE.

  4. Why do people insist on leaving their pets in a car while they go and do whatever? The dog would have been much better off at home even if he were in a crate. Train your dog not to bark when you go away, it’s not that hard. I’m surprised that people who do such things don’t end up with a mess in their car. Mine, when they were puppies, would have torn the car seats to shreds,
