Days ago, the owner of a green and silver Dodge returned to a smashed out window after a dog was left inside of the truck on a hot day in Loveland, Colorado. Thanks to a Loveland Police Officer, the dog left inside of the vehicle was saved and will survive.

On July 16, the Larimer Humane Society Tweeted a video of the dog’s rescue, writing:

Larimer Humane Society’s Animal Protection and Control Dispatch (@LarimerHumane), with the help of @LovelandPolice, responded to a #dog who was left baking in a hot car. 🐶

With reminders, once again, that dogs should not ever be left inside of parked cars on warm days. By the time the dog in the Dodge truck was found, it was 100 degrees in the vehicle’s interior.

The dog’s owner, who has not been publicly identified, has been cited for animal cruelty. No word regarding whether or not the dog will be returned to that individual.

Please be vigilant when walking through parking lots on warm days – if you see a dog who has been left inside, reach out to the local animal control agency and/or police as soon as possible. Know your state laws – many states allow for car windows to be broken if a dog is in distress inside of a parked vehicle.

PLEASE–these days with the weather so unbearably hot we may be distracted and might not be as aware as we should be of pets trapped inside boiling hot cars!

Our police heroes are “awesome” but need our backup to save these innocent defenseless animals! It’s a 24/7 job!
