In Maple Shade, New Jersey, an investigation into the tragic death of a family dog on Tuesday evening has been garnering public attention. Prosecutors in Burlington County stated a neighbor of the family found Toby, a male poodle, screaming in pain. The dog had escaped from his yard.
According to a GoFundMe post, the tiny dog was rushed to an emergency veterinarian and diagnosed with a foreign object lodged in his brain. Toby suffered severe brain damage, and as a result it was decided to humanely euthanize the pup.
“Last night, my grandparents’ pom-poodle pup, Toby, escaped from their yard and made his way down Fifth Avenue where some psychopath shot him in the head. When he was found, he was rushed to North Star Animal Hospital where they proceeded to do tests to assess his injuries. Ultimately the brain damage was so severe he had to be put down,” Amber Cook, the granddaughter of Toby’s owner wrote.
Toby’s owner suffers from PTSD and depression. The sweet dog was able to bring the retired veteran hours of peace and happiness.
“My Grandfather is a veteran and this dog was not only his best friend but also helped with his PTSD and depression. Toby was the sweetest little dog in the world. There are no words to describe how much he meant to our family. I’m starting this fund to help with some of the medical expenses they incurred trying to save him. If you can donate anything at all we would be forever grateful, and if you are unable to donate, just your support during this difficult time is enough. The outpour of concern and sorrow from the community has been greatly appreciated. Please do one last thing in Toby’s memory: keep an eye on your pets and give them a little extra love. Thank you,
The Cook family”
In a press release from the Maple Shade police made it clear how they intend to pursue this tragedy and bring the responsible person(s) to justice.
“Chief Fletcher’s position on this investigation is clear, the Maple Shade Police Department will not tolerate cruelty to animals. The Maple Shade Police Department and our certified Humane Law Enforcement Officers will work closely with the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and bring to justice anyone that does kill or injure an animal in Maple Shade.
The men and women of the Maple Shade Police Department are committed to keeping the Township of Maple Shade a safe community for both our residents and our pets.”
Please share this information with friends, family and social media contacts. Help Toby and his owner find justice for such a despicable action.
