Police in Louisiana are investigating the dragging of a dog by someone driving a rented vehicle. As reported by WAFB News, the incident took place on Sunday along highway 68 in Wilson, and now the East Feliciana Sheriff’s Office is working to find out exactly what happened before the dog died.

A witness was able to capture video of the incident and shared it with the authorities. In the video, someone can be heard yelling, “stop, get out and push the dog into a ditch.”

The police are unsure if the dog died from being dragged, or if the dog was already dead – a necropsy is being conducted to determine the exact cause of death. Sheriff Jeff Travis is determined to get the person responsible, telling the news agency, “We’re going to do everything in our power to catch whoever’s responsible for this.”

The authorities were able to get the vehicle’s license plate number and they will be questioning the person who rented it.
