Plum has waited 98 days to be rescued and now her time has run out

At the Brooklyn facility of New York City Animal Care Centers, an “old soul” named Plum has waited 98 days at the shelter hoping for a family to take her home. Sadly, she has watched many of her shelter pals come and go – so many have left with families to start new lives. The look on her eyes reveals the hurt in her heart. Why doesn’t anyone want me?

“Plum is just as sweet as a plum!,” a volunteer writes. “She rested her head in my lap as I rubbed her ears and cheeks, then half-closed her eyes and drifted off into some sort of doggie nirvana. When I stopped, she softly solicited more attention (which I gladly gave her.”

Plum entered the shelter on July 5 as a stray, is estimated to be eight-years-old and weighs 77 pounds. Read more about her health notes here.

Notes from the shelter referencing the type of home best recommended for Plum’s success:

“The Behavior Department recommends that Plum be placed in a home with no other dogs until her behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed once she has adequate time to decompress from the shelter environment. The Behavior Department recommends reward-based, force-free training only to desensitize and counter-condition Plum using toys or treats to help her associate other dogs with positive experiences.

According to volunteers, this Cane-Corso is shy, but she continues to miss her family who most likely abandoned her. She tries her best to make friends and gently leans in for comfort. The perfect home would be with an adult – quiet, calm and safe. Let Plum gently decompress and warm up to her new human.
