The man who left his dog to suffer and die in the bitter cold of Indiana “might” face charges reports WISHTV News. The dog’s owner had admitted that he left the dog out in the cold, and that he then threw the dog into a dumpster. On the day that the dog was died, the temperature plummeted to 35 degrees below zero. Kristen Lee, with Indianapolis Animal Care Services (IACS), commented on the terrible discovery:
Just walking up, it was horrific. It’s heartbreaking. I have a knot in my stomach talking about it right now.
The heartbreaking details
Earlier this week, Indianapolis Animal Care Services detailed the heartbreaking discovering:
He picked up the dog and threw it away in a dumpster, as if its life meant nothing. When we found the dog, it was emaciated and covered in trash. The small area where the dog spent its last hours had a frozen water bowl and gave you a glimmer of the painful days and nights it suffered before freezing to the ground of its doghouse.
While leaving a dog to die in subzero weather seems to scream of animal cruelty, there have not yet been filed against the 62-year-old man who left the dog outside – and that person has not been publicly identified. However, charges are expected. Indianapolis Metro Police Department Sgt. William Carter has stated that the man, who has been cooperating with the authorities, will likely face charges for animal cruelty and abandonment.
The man had owned the dog for a decade and had been warned not to leave him outside.
