An owner surrendering a young German shepherd to the Southeast Area Animal Control (SEAACA) and alleged to have been hitting the dog in the lobby, was denied the opportunity to adopt a smaller dog on Tuesday.

Animal advocate and popular rescuer, Cathi Perez was at the shelter when an officer was called in to investigate:

“I’m at the shelter and this dog is being turned in. A good Sam stepped up inside the lobby and reported he witnessed the female owner beating the dog outside, she said she wants a smaller dog but was told by the shelter she could not adopt and was lucky she’s not facing charges.

Bravo to the shelter and staff and I thanked the Good Sam for stepping forward,” Cathi reported on social media.

Good Samaritans Jonathan Vargas and Grecia Jimenez witnessed the woman hitting the dog that had been wearing a prong collar and quickly decided they just couldn’t sit by and allow the abuse to continue – much less watch the abusive couple adopt another dog.

“We own 3 dogs and love animals soooo much it hurt us to see such a thing happening … I was in complete shock,” Grecia wrote on Facebook. “Jonathan Vargas was completely mad; he was ready to take the dog away from him himself, but knew it was better to tell the people in the front….”

And the results of “if you see something say something,” – another dog is likely saved from being abused. The couple were denied by the shelter the opportunity to adopt another “smaller” dog.  As of this time, the dog remains on hold status for an approved rescue organization.

Many thanks to the SEAACA shelter for not allowing these people to adopt. It is not known if other shelters in California will be notified and also deny a dog adoption. Be the voice for those who cannot speak.

  1. The shelter should have taken their names and then passed the information along to other shelters. If they were abusing their dog in front of other people they will surely abuse any animal that they have! I hope the dog they turned in finds a loving home!

  2. Anyone turning in a dog should NOT be allowed to adopt another one anyway. How long will it be before they get tired of the new dog and take it back. Don’t worry though If they want a dog bad enough they will get one off of Craigs List or some back yard breeder.

  3. Hope to HELL that EVERY SHELTER IN THE STATE is Notified about these Ethnic Scum!!! to be so “Brazen” as to abuse the dog they now have Right in the Shelter is Just unbelievable!!!

  4. I agree with Kat, shelters should notify other shelters of the names of people who try to turn an animal in that they have abused or are abusing. There should be a master list of those people who are band from adopting any pet-dog or cat forever, not just 5 or 10 years. People who abuse animals, will continue do this at any time.Master list would be in the computer for all adoption facilities where someone would go to get another animal that they will end up abusing. Should be made available to every facility this country, not just local communities or states.

  5. Bravo!! PLEASE SPEAK UP FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT!!
What kinda idiot sub human trash our poor furbabies must be trapped in!!! Should of charged them & reported to DANA LIST!!!

  6. What is this bitch doing swapping out animals like it’s nothing. Maybe her mother should have swapped her out for dog and threw her ass in the dumpster when she was born. The nerve of this scum bucket to surrender her dog and wants another one. Absolutely, they should put her mugshot on the computer so when it pulls up her name to adopt another animal her ugly face it there. I would like the have a few minutes with this scumbag.
