Texas shelter is slammed

Over a two hour wait to surrender pets at slammed animal control

A Texas animal control is currently slammed with incoming pets – in fact, so any people want to surrender their cats and dogs that the wait time is over two hours. It has gotten so out of hand at the Harris County Animal Shelter that people are walking away without leaving their pets with shelter staff.

Texas shelter slammed with owner surrenders

On Monday, the Facebook page for the facility detailed the pitiful situation:

There is a 2 1/2 hr wait today to surrender an animal at Harris County Animal Shelter. That is how many animals we are receiving! If people can’t wait or don’t want to wait they tying them up to a tree and leaving or abandoning them in a box in our parking lot.

The shelter is caring for over 530 homeless pets – there are so many animals there that the kennels are packed with upwards of six dogs! The shelter is in desperate need of adopters and people who are willing to foster – if enough people aren’t found, the fate of these unwanted pets will be sealed.

The situation is overwhelming for the staff at this facility – please help share the message that the Harris County Animal Shelter needs help. Adopt – foster  – network to save lives. These pets have been let down by their families. They did nothing to deserve the situation that they have been put into. Please help if you can.

If you are a Houston or Harris County resident and can foster for 2-3 weeks, please email foster@phs.hctx.net.

Why is there this big of an influx of unwanted animals? What is going on that they are being surrendered in such numbers? This sounds very strange!

This is tragic! The shelter seems to care more about the animals than the
BRAINLESS HEARTLESS owners. Please help Harris County Shelter. They are not asking, but I’m sure they could use donations in addition to networking, fosters and adopters!
