Over 100 dogs, described as golden retrievers and Labrador retrievers, have been seized from what is described as squalid conditions at a New Hampshire kennel. According to a press release from Pope Memorial SPCA, a total of 52 adults and 53 puppies were seized from a kennel in Bradford on Tuesday, June 11.

The Pope Memorial SPCA of Concord-Merrimack County (SPCA) along with the Humane Society for Greater Nashua, assisted the Bradford Police Department and the NH State Veterinarian’s Office with an on-going animal cruelty investigation after someone who purchased two dogs from the kennel reported possible animal cruelty and neglect.

The dogs and puppies seized from the property will recuperate at the Pope Memorial SPCA and the Humane Society for Greater Nashua. Cathy Emerson, Director of Operations, stated:

“We expect all of the dogs to improve physically and behaviorally, and hope to start adoptions in 2-3 weeks. For some dogs it will take longer, as puppies will need to grow up, and we have several more females who are most probably pregnant.”

The Humane Society for Greater Nashua thanked the community for their support:

We want to thank you all for your support! Our amazing staff is starting the hard work of medical assessments and surgeries on some of the dogs surrendered in the Bradford NH case. We would like to remind you that these dogs are not available for adoption yet. Thanks for supporting us! It is greatly appreciated.

Pope Memorial SPCA has stated that an overwhelming response has been received for the dogs and puppies taken in and they have asked for patience:

Please be patient as we are overwhelmed with emails, phone calls and visitors at the moment. We have already received over 300 adoption applications. A reminder that the Golden/Labs are not available at this time and cannot be viewed. We do hope you understand. We are so very grateful for the outpouring of support from the community.
