Emergency pets will be euthanized at outdoor shelter

Outdoor shelter in Louisiana: ‘Help, we will euthanize all outdoors kept pets’

An animal shelter in Louisiana is in crisis mode as a large storm approaches. The St. Landry Parish Animal Control & Rescue is under a disaster proclamation and hundreds of pets need to be moved.

On Thursday, the animal control agency stated:

Please we are an outdoor facility….if you are a 501c3 (or know one, outside the “zone”) that can help PULL DOGS or CATS INTO YOUR RESCUE….PLEASE help us.
We have approx 24 hour window before major wind (APPROX 75 MPH WINDS) and rain sets in…..We are at over 300 pets.

If the homeless pets who are held in the facility’s outside kennels are not moved, they will be euthanized. The animal control agency writes:

FOR THE SAFETY OF THE PETS, WE WILL EUTHANIZE ALL OUT DOORS KEPT PETS (125 DOGS)….PLEASE HELP. OUR PHONE LINES ARE GOING OUT, YOU CAN CALL OUR DIRECTOR 337-501-9100 (24 hrs a day) STARTING TOMORROW WE WILL REMAIN HERE WITH THE PETS!

Adding:

WE ARE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, PLEASE SHARE…
PARISH SHELTER 337-948-6184

Time is of the essence as tropical storm Barry continues to track towards shore – the storm is expected to hit as a hurricane and the pets at this facility urgently need help.

Sadly, as residents attempt to leave the area, they are bringing their pets to the facility…which is not set up to handle a hurricane with outdoor kennels. The animal control agency stated:

As people are leaving the parish preparing for the storm….dogs are pouring in. We tried to STOP THIS…sadly no pet should be without shelter.

Please help spread the word and get these animals moved out of the danger zone.

LISTEN: It is not the pet,?? it is the OWNER, do you think that poor animal wants to be tied up outside and cannot be a pet and come in with the family??. Don’t get an animal, you do not deserve a pet, and that pet does not deserve YOU!!! Louisiana, find a place for these animals and do not return to owner. Make it harder to have a pet in your State, if the responsibility is too much for some they shouldn’t have an animal. And to euthanize an animal because they are tied up is just unbelievable!
