In the seashore community of Southend-on-Sea, United Kingdom, onlookers cheered on Sunday as a police officer and a member of the public smashed a car window to rescue a French bulldog that had been locked inside the vehicle for hours with no water.
According to The Sun, a video of the dog locked in the car had been shared on social media with witnesses fearing for the dog’s life. A recent record heat wave brought sweltering temperatures to nearly 116 degrees. On Sunday, the temperature was 76 degrees, but it could only be a short time before temperatures inside the car became deadly.
NO windows open or any water … you don’t deserve dogs!,” one reader wrote.
It wasn’t long before hundreds of comments were added to the photos, including breed specific breathing problems associated with French bulldogs creating an even more serious risk.
Witnesses cheered as the woman officer used her baton to smash the glass, but after several unsuccessful attempts, a member of the public offered assistance and smashed the glass. The glass was then cleared while the pup was lifted out of the car.
