Some lessons are learned in the most painful way possible. Last weekend, an off-leash dog died after falling from a trail-side cliff at Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach, Oregon. On August 24, Cannon Beach Rural Fire Protection District stated,

Not every call has a happy ending.

The rescue agency was referring to their call about a dog who plunged over the cliff from a trail – the same area where another dog fell from a cliff back in 2017.

In the most recent incident, two good Samaritans surfers paddled over to the area where the dog fell, and a lifeguard swam out – all reported that the dog was dead.

Seaside Fire & Rescue were able to retrieve the dog’s body with their jet skis.

The agency reminded dog owners to keep their pets on leashes in this area, writing:

*Please remember to keep your furry friend on a leash, and hold onto that leash***

We want everyone to enjoy our coastal area safely.

  1. Dogs don’t know the danger of falling off of a cliff. I’m so sorry for the owners loss, I can’t imagine the heartbreak losing you pet like this.

  2. So sad…….. AND unnecessary had the dog been on lead…..

My Dad always said: “Common sense is not so common” & “You can fix many things, but you cannot fix “stupid””…….

Tragic that this dog lost his/her life due to his/her human’s failure to keep him/her safe…….

Precious treasure, your life mattered. I absolutely know that you are in Heaven. Please look for MacKitty and join his wonderful snuggle buddies group and RIP amongst loving friends………..
