In Tate County, Mississippi, animal advocates and area residents want answers why  nine healthy puppies were killed at the Senatobia Tate Animal Shelter last week for no apparent reason.

According to Fox News, local rescue organizations had been prepared to take in the puppies that had been picked up on Thursday and were all dead by Friday afternoon. The two litters of puppies, estimated to have been about three-months-old appeared healthy.

Photos of the pups were never shared on social media which has been a successful method to attract adopters and rescue organizations able to save the lives of the abandoned and unwanted pets. A volunteer with the shelter had reached out for help, received several offers and when they went to the shelter to pick up the puppies, all had been euthanized.

A Change.org petition has been created asking for changes; more than 6,000 people have signed.

“The Director of the Senatobia-Tate County Animal Shelter recently euthanized healthy puppies. There is no reason for this callus treatment of animals. Shelters need to hire people that are caring and love animals, not people who are there just because it’s a job. Was she trained in euthanasia? The animals are living and loving beings. The community wants to see compassion given to the animals and solutions found to the root of the overpopulation. Rescues were interested in the puppies and they were killed before they could be rescued. We hope you can make changes to the policy at the animal shelter.”

There has not been any response from the shelter.

  1. What a despicable act on somebady’s part. The person in charge of that shelter MUST be held accountable. The fact that the shelter has not responded to inquiries means they know they screwed up BIG TIME. There can be no reason , no excuse, no rationalization for something like this. Anyone and everyone in that shelter who was involved in this act should be fired and the person in charge should be held criminally responsible. Nothing can bring those poor puppies back but there can be justice if local citizens fight hard enough to see that appropriate action is taken. In the words of Winston Churchill, Never give in, never give in, never give in.

  2. I am absolutely heartbroken and shocked!!! I always thought that puppies were easier to adopt out…….

There are some very serious questions that MUST be answered……. including: WHY euthanasia over rescue?
WHY “no time” allowed for rescue?

Whoever did this has NO compassion or care for living beings and should NOT be anywhere near animals…….

They will burn forever in Hell for their cruelty……

Precious little treasures, your lives mattered and were stolen by the humans who should have protected you and kept you safe…… sorry you were failed by humans in every way possible…… I know you all are in Heaven. Please look for MacKitty and join his wonderful snuggle buddies group and RIP amongst loving friends……
