Mother cat and kittens secured in crate, bagged and thrown into the trash

A mother cat and her kittens were subjected to horrific cruelty when someone placed them inside of a crate, fastened it closed, put them into a trash bag and threw them into a garbage receptacle. The Portage Animal Protective League, in Portage County, Ohio, alerted Facebook followers the heinous crime on September 13, writing:

Animals are not trash! Some horrible person put a mother cat and 8 babies in a cat carrier, screwed it shut, put it in a trash bag, tied it shut, and threw them out.

Thanks to a good Samaritan, the authorities were contacted and the discarded family was rescued – sadly, one kitten had already died. The animal welfare agency writes:

 These poor babies are in terrible shape. One kitten was already dead. The other 7 are about half the weight they should be for their age, covered in fleas, have worms, are emaciated and dirty. Please keep them in your thoughts. We really hope they pull through.

Adding:

Our staff worked quickly to rid them of the fleas who were feeding on them, to clean them up, give them food and medicine and a chance to live.
