Max, the surrendered senior dog who never stood a chance

When dogs never stand a chance
Spread the love

Some dogs are destined to live with people who literally rob them of every opportunity to know love, joy and comfort. Such is the case for a dog named Max, who was surrendered by his owner at the age of 10. Max was taken in at the BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas, after his former owner handed him over.

Upon arrival, not only did Max have being a “senior” working against him, he was also infested with fleas and suffering from skin irritation resulting from a flea allergy. Add to that pitiful mix…heartworm positive.  The topper – he was an owner surrendered dog, which means when the shelter is full, he is first on the list to be put down.

In short order, Max was put on the euthanasia (kinder word for kill) list and though advocates rushed to save him, it was too late – Max was put down. Max never stood a chance because he was failed, time and again, by the person who had previously owned him. The person who neglected him. The person who dumped him at a busy animal control agency when he was in poor health and old. Max was failed.

What can you do?

Why bother sharing Max’s story? Is there a point? First and foremost, Max deserves to be acknowledged and remembered. But there is more – you can help dogs like Max by doing your part to help homeless shelter pets make their way out of shelters alive.

  • Network, network, network – you never know where that “share” may wind up!
  • Volunteer at your local animal shelter
  • Take photos of cats and dogs at your local shelter and get them on a social media platform (Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest)
  • Encourage other people to adopt and spay/neuter their pets
  • Foster!!

Rest in peace Max. You certainly deserve better than you received.

  1. Poor precious treasure Max, failed in every way possible by your humans……. I am so sorry that you were not able to be rehomed by the few humans who DID care about you and valued your life…….

WTF is wrong with people??? Most of us want our furbabies to be with us for as long as possible and we savor each and every day our precious treasures are with us……

This so called family who gave up Max has reserved places in Hell waiting where they will burn forever for their cruelty…… Do they really think there is a long line of potential adopters for an elderly, medically fragile furbaby???

Precious treasure Max I absolutely know that you are in Heaven. Please look for MacKitty and join his wonderful snuggle buddies group and RIP amongst loving friends……..
