The man who slashed the throat of a calf in a Home Depot parking lot in Bloomfield, Connecticut, has been charged with animal cruelty. As reported by the New York Post, 39-year-old Badr Musaed is facing a felony charge for the incident which took place in July in front of shocked onlookers.
The young cow had escaped a halal butcher shop before running into the Home Depot parking lot – employees of the Saba Live Poultry store chased after the calf and eventually captured her with a leash. Shortly thereafter, the calf’s throat was slit.
Bilal Musid, who manages the butcher shop, has apologized for Musaed’s actions, but explains that the man feared that the runaway calf would hurt someone.
The Saba Live Pountry store has been investigated by the state Department of Agriculture and subsequently ordered to shut down operations. Multiple violations must be addressed before the butcher shop will be allowed to reopen.
Musaed has been released on a $10,000 bond.
