The Virginia man who set a dog on fire, causing the dog extreme suffering and death, has been sentenced to prison. On Wednesday, the Richmond Police Department announced that 20-year-old Jyahshua A. Hill will serve five years in prison, the maximum sentence allowable by law, for the dog’s death.

Earlier this year, Hill set a pit bull, dubbed “Tommie,” on fire – the grievously injured dog was discovered in a park, tied to a pole. His body had been doused in accelerant before he was set on fire by Hill. Tommie survived the horrific act for a short time – he suffered widespread burns on his body and veterinary staff worked round-the-clock to save him, but he passed away. His death sparked outrage among animal lovers and prompted the offering of a $25,000 reward.

Hill pleaded guilty to the felony animal cruelty charge and the prison sentence is part of a plea agreement.

  1. Five years the maximum is not enough to make this POS killer from doing this again. There is no hope for a human that can set an innocent animal on fire!
