On Sunday, a South Carolina man was arrested after he allegedly tried to kill a young dog, just 12 months of age, with a shovel. As reported by Count on News 2, David Beach told deputies with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office that he was trying to put the year old dog, Zena, down – the pup apparently had an accident inside before the brutal attack took place.
It was Zena’s owner, Mildred, who called 9-1-1 after she saw Beach with blood on his hands – the dog was motionless on the ground and a hole to bury her had already been dug. Responding deputies discovered that Zena was still alive, though grievously injured with blood coming from her nose and a visibly injured and bloody jaw.
Beach was arrested and is facing a charge of ill-treatment of animals – Zena was taken to an animal hospital where an exam revealed a broken skull and fractured ribs. Her owner surrendered custody – no word on the dog’s current condition, or where she is being treated.
