A man driving in Manitoba, Canada, struck an animal with his car and then stopped to help. As reported by CBC News, Eli Boroditsky was driving to work when he struck what he believed was a husky mix. Boroditsky pulled over, got a flashlight and retrieved the wounded animal from the shoulder of the road.
The man tells CBC News, “I was hesitant to leave it lying there because — thinking that it was a dog and there might be wild animals around — it might get hurt.” As reported by CNN, the wounded animal was amazingly calm in the backseat of Boroditsky’s car, he explained, “It is amazing how docile it was. I was petting it.”
It was one of Boroditsky’s co-workers who broke the news that the “husky” was actually a wild animal – a coyote to be exact. The coyote’s rescuer set out to find a rehab facility which could help – during that time, the animal remained inside of the car and did not urinate of defecate over the course of 11 hours.
In the morning, a conservation officer with Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre arrived to get the coyote, who is now recovering at their facility. The animal is expected to make a full recovery and will be released into the wild.
