In Bexar County, Texas, a kind animal loving man in hospice, with only a week to live, has a final wish – homes for his remaining 11 dogs. Richard Ewers has been rescuing dumped and stray dogs for two years, but after an incurable cancer diagnosis a year ago, the community has stepped up to help.

Save Our Strays San Antonio stated it is crucial the dogs be placed in homes immediately. Sixteen of the dogs have been rehomed, but the remaining 11 being placed in loving homes will make Ewers’ final wish materialize. Every day the rescue organization has been coming to his home to spend time with the dogs, feed and water them.

Although the conditions the dogs are currently living in are not ideal, the dogs have shelter, and their welfare has been addressed, but they spend a lot of time alone.

“There’s no one to give them attention and love,” Mary Oyler with the Save Our Strays San Antonio stated. “There is no running water. There is no electricity.”

According to the Facebook page, Helping Mr. Richard and His Dogs, the dogs will need families with patience since many of the dogs have not been socialized. All of the dogs have been spayed and neutered, but will need veterinarian checkups.

“These babies are doing ok but will need a rescue and fosters since Mr Richard will not be returning and can’t remain on the property much longer.
They are unsocialized and will require allot[sic] of patience and love.
We will be posting pictures and bios which will include vetting info within the next couple of days.”

On Tuesday, another ray of light beamed down on the lives of some of the dogs.

“Pupdate; 5/7/19

What’s this I hear?? God’s Dogs is also taking Fuzzy Wuzzy??? YEA!! Thank You God’s Dogs fur helping these babies yet once again
Y’all totally ROCK!”

There are still more dogs who need homes. Anyone want to meet Lucky? Here is his description, and he sure could use your help.

“Meet “Lucky”
Lucky needs “ Luck” on his side right now , no pun intended 🤣

Lucky is an older dog, he is a an amazing boy, he is the friendliest of them all, he keeps everyone in check, so when anyone gets rowdy , Lucky steps right in and settles everyone down , he gets the job done right the first time 😊
Lucky Loves people , gets along with other dogs, very social, laid back , just a very well rounded boy.
If fishin and camping is your thing , well Lucky is the dog for you 👍🏻
Now I ain’t one for spreadin rumors. I ain’t the gossiping kind but word is amongst the country folk out here is that Lucky is an amazing fisherman , why just the other day he caught 12 fish single handily 😊, he will get your tackle box all packed up and camping gear ready the night before and is up before the roosters brush their beaks 🤣 these mutts talk y’all 🤣”

Check out the Facebook page. Share the dogs’ plights with friends, family, approved rescue groups and social media contacts. Help Mr. Richard’s last wish come true.
