On Saturday night, a man in Virginia lost his life while trying to save his dog from drowning. According to multiple sources, 28-year-old Nghia Trinh went into a lake to save his dog, but he never made it out alive.

According to WTOP, Trinh went into Lake Braddock in Fairfax County after his dog got loose – the dog survived, but Trinh went under the water and never resurfaced. His body was not pulled out of the water until 40 minutes after he went in; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Though devoted dog owners are inclined to enter the water to help their pets, experts advise against it because most dogs can make it out on their own.

  1. Yes it probably isn’t wise to go into the water to try and save your dog, but how many of us would act first without thinking of our safety if we thought our dog was in danger. Rest in peace Nghia Trinh, my condolences to your family and friends.
