An Illinois man who viciously beat a 10-pound poodle could see prison time for the crime. As reported by the NW Herald, 22-year-old Elijah D.G. Washington pleaded guilty to a felony animal cruelty charge resulting from the August 2018 incident which left the little dog with broken ribs and bruised lungs.

Washington could spend as much as three years in prison for beating the miniature poodle, who he claims bit a child at a home on the 4200 block of Savoy Lane, McHenry. Despite the man’s claims, the 10-year-old girl was not injured and aside from a red mark on her hand, there was no evidence of a bite.

The accused man allegedly beat the small dog with his fists, a leash and a plastic back scratcher. The dog was taken to a veterinarian for care and then transferred to the McHenry County Animal Control

McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt will sentence Washington in September.
