In Santa Ana, California, a man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly tying a Chihuahua with electrical wires and bungee cords and then repeatedly kicking the dog like a football.
According to KtlaNews, Santa Ana police received a 911 call from a man who stated a male Hispanic adult had bound a dog’s legs and had been repeatedly kicking him. When officers arrived at the scene near East First Street, they found Jose Manuel Pantoja, 28, standing over the tiny Chihuahua.
The dog had been tied with a bungee cord around his throat and chest. Multicolored electrical wire had bound his legs together. The brown male dog was transported to the Orange County Emergency Pet Clinic for treatment of multiple injuries.
The dog did not belong to Pantoja, who told police the dog had been following him around, and he did not know to whom it belonged. By Monday afternoon, authorities were able to contact the owner and found the dog had escaped from his yard; the owners had been frantically searching for their 13-year-old pet named Max.
On Tuesday afternoon the Santa Ana police returned Max to his family.
