A 26-year-old Yonkers, New York, man was arrested and charged for allegedly starving his dog. As reported by MidHudson News, by the time that Eric Anderson’s dog, Stone, was found in a room at 73 Hamilton Avenue, he was skeletal.

The SPCA of Westchester’s Humane Law Enforcement Unit, which responded to the call for help, found the dog suffering from malnutrition and dehydration – the young pit bull was rushed to an emergency veterinarian for care and then taken to the SPCA’s Simpson’s Clinic for ongoing treatment.

Anderson is facing an animal cruelty charge for the neglect of stone. Shannon Laukhuf, the SPCA’s executive director, told the news agency:

It’s hard to understand how anyone could do something so cruel to an innocent animal. It’s remarkable how trusting and resilient Stone is after all he endured.” The pup is expected to have a “bright future” after he recovers from the long-term neglect.

If you suspect animal cruelty or neglect, call the Police or the SPCA of Westchester’s Confidential Animal Cruelty Hotline at 914-941-7797
