An Iowa man was arrested and charged for allegedly starving and torturing a puppy. As reported by KCRG News, Nathan Lee Adams, of Knoxville, was arrested on Tuesday on a charge of animal torture, for his alleged abuse of a six-month-old puppy named Zena.
Zena is currently in the care of the Marion County Humane Society. The animal welfare agency’s board president tells the news agency, “He was just feeding her enough to keep her alive so he could continue to torture her.” The Labrador retriever mix has two broken legs and is severely malnourished. The police found her inside of a filthy cage with urine and feces.
In a social media post, the shelter details Zena’s injuries:
Both of her back legs are fractured and the fractures happened some time ago. The vet said he’d never seen legs fractured so badly. She is going to require extensive surgery and may have to have one or both of her back legs amputated.
Despite all of this, she is a very sweet and loving puppy. We desperately want to give her a second chance for a happy life.
Adams secured a few additional charges on the day of his arrest when he made death threats to the police officers and a dispatcher. The threats resulted in charges for: threat with explosives or incendiary device and four counts of first-degree harassment.
