Low on shelter space: Bonded senior brothers need miracle

Incredibly bonded Taz and Shadow need immediate help. BARCS Animal Shelter is low on shelter space and a miracle is needed to save the two seniors. In a heartbreaking situation, their elderly human owner had to surrender his dogs because of failing health and a lack of family able to care for them.

“The boys nosey around the play yard together, glued side by side, always finding an opportunity to be touching. It’s clear they think of themselves as one. Although they are the same age, Taz seems to play the little brother role, as he’s a bit less sure of himself – but his best bud Shadow reassures him,” a volunteer at the shelter wrote on Facebook hoping to share the dogs’ story.

Taz, the tri-colored and Shadow (black/white) are 13-years-old and were litter mates. They are confused and seem lost at the shelter. There is no doubt the two have been well cared for, walk easily on their leashes and are house trained.

“So, after living their whole lives together, in a home full of love, 13-year-old litter mates Taz and Shadow are lost and confused in our shelter…As they acclimate to their new environment, they might feel more comfortable and independent, but right now, we’re dedicated to finding them a forever home or rescue pledge together.”

The dogs are acclimating to the shelter, but it’s clear they are lost without their human to love, follow and wait for during the day and evening.

Taz and Shadow’s adoption fee has been waived thanks to BARCS’ Love Lasts Forever Program for senior pets. For more information, email [email protected]. The shelter is located in Baltimore, Maryland.

Share the plight of these two sweet dogs with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives. Be the voice for those who cannot speak.

  1. These poor furbabies…… Absolutely disgusting……. How can someone do this and still like what they see in the mirror looking back at them??? Of course the relatives took everything that was of value in the house……

It’s absolutely heartbreaking how awful and callous some individuals can be to defenseless animals…… who were supposed to be treated as treasured family members……

I can’t understand how anyone would abandon a treasured senior family member……. How can anyone be so cruel to a loving family member when they are most in need of love and support??? Precious Treasures Taz & Shadow, your lives matter, I am very sorry that you were failed so horribly by your human’s relatives……..

I would give anything to have had more time with our treasured MacKitty…… Our precious furbabies are family members and are with us forever (from adoption day to their last breaths of life)…….. Whilst I hate seeing senior treasures in a shelter (@ least they are in a place that is protected from predators, fed, watered, and hopefully rehomed), they have a chance for a new furever home, where they will be treasured family members…….

It is tragic to think of them dying in the shelter alone, afraid and worst of all unloved……

I hope that a local rescue can save these 2 brothers…… what a tragic, heartbreaking situation……
