Kennel owner facing cruelty charge after abuse allegations

An Alabama boarding kennel owner is facing animal cruelty charges following abuse allegations from a former client. As reported by KSLA News, 43-year-old Donna Michelle Lindgren was arrested last week after an investigation was opened for a couple whose dogs were boarded at Kountry Kennel Doggie Boarding and Daycare.

Aubrey Held and her husband, Stephen, notified the authorities that their dogs, Kennedy and Butkus, were in poor condition after being boarded at the kennel facility. Held uploaded a video of her dog, Kennedy, to Facebook – in the footage, the dog is breathing heavily and is unresponsive. Held commented that the dog passed away shortly after the video was taken.

Held ranted on Facebook about the condition of her dogs after they were boarded at Kountry Kennel – she recounted the condition of her pets:

These previously healthy, happy, tail wagging family members came home stinking from the ROT of probably being caged the whole time in their own urine and feces, and this was after she gave them a bath. Which is very weird! Why on earth would she have to give our dogs a bath right before us picking them up. They both came home lethargic, and listless.

Our boy dog Butkus was so hungry he ate two of his normal serving sizes, mind you we were finally able to pick them up at 8:20 pm so our dogs should’ve eaten dinner already! Kenny, our girl dog, was so bad off that Donna’s son carried her out to my husbands truck, not walked…Donna said “she was having a hard time with separation anxiety and she was walking unbalanced and she had been panting a lot.”

Held has updated her post multiple times – Butkus has been suffering with bad diarrhea, but he is improving. Kennedy’s body has been sent out for a necropsy to determine the exact cause of her death.

The kennel owner is facing a charge of second-degree animal cruelty.

This is heartbreaking, we board our pets with people we trust to take proper care of them. This is unacceptable, this place needs to be sued and shut down! My dogs when picked up from the boarding kennel are always hyper and ready to go home but you can tell they were fed and treated well. My heart goes out to the Held family, this is a horrible way to lose your family member.
