In Savannah, Georgia, the Savannah Police Department and Chatham County Animal Services charged a juvenile on Monday with animal cruelty for swinging a French bulldog puppy by the neck from a leash. The disturbing video quickly went viral.
According to the Animal Hope & Wellness Foundation, Animal Services were able to examine the dog and determined the puppy did not suffer any injuries. The person identified as the culprit in the viral video is not the dog’s owner and is a minor. The puppy has since been returned to his owner.
“Chatham County Animal Services has recommended that the SPD charge the juvenile with animal cruelty. Animal abuse continues because we allow it to continue. Without harsher penalties, things like this will continue to happen. Laws need to change across the United States where governments impose stricter forms of punishment,” the rescue organization posted on their Facebook page.
