A dog, believed to be defending his owner, was paralyzed when intruders broke into a home in North Charleston, South Carolina. The incident, which took place on June 1, also resulted in a gun-shot wound to 17-year-old Zymaine Nelson, who has Downs Syndrome.

Nelson is still in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound to his leg and his dog, Cowboy, is in need of surgery for his injury.

On June 3, the Facebook page for North Charleston High School Athletics wrote:

This is Zymaine Nelson, one of North Charleston’s Exceptional Cougars and a proud member of North Charleston’s Club Unify and Special Olympics. He has Down’s Syndrome and is non-verbal, but his joyous spirit can light up a room. If you’ve never met him, you’re truly missing out on a wonderful young man.

Zymaine was shot this weekend during a home invasion and is currently in intensive care. His dog, Cowboy, protected him and very well may have saved his life.

What about “Cowboy’s” medical expenses? He was the “hero”! Hope those expenses are included in the GoFundMe page!

Pure Evil……with reserved spots in Hell waiting where they will burn forever for their cruelty……. Useless POSs…… find them, lock them up forever and lose the keys…. Should only leave prison in a pine box…… Hope they die horrible deaths alone (unloved), afraid and in awful pain……

I hope both Zymaine and Cowboy make full recoveries and are back to their normal activities ASAP!!!
