In East Alton, Illinois, a Collinsville man has been sentenced to 5 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to aggravated animal cruelty for “stomping” a cat to death.

According to the Alton Daily News,  in October 2018, William Ledbetter, 51, and Kenneth W. Rogers, 53, were seen by an eyewitness “stomping on something” and pushing it into a dog food bag. When authorities arrived, the found the body of a cat.

Ledbetter was charged with a Class 4 felony usually punishable by a prison term of one to three years, but his past criminal record of aggravated battery, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and 27 misdemeanors convictions influenced the judge’s decision to extend the prison sentence.

The case for Rogers is still pending.
