Residents of House Springs, Missouri said they loved watching the rare albino deer quietly roaming in their neighborhood. Sadly that all came to an end on Tuesday when a hunter shot and killed the deer on Erin Meadow Road.

According to US News, the Missouri Conservation Department is investigating what happened – not because it’s illegal to kill a deer, but because the hunter was so close to homes and a middle school. State law prohibits the discharge of a firearm within 300 feet of a school. At the location the deer was killed was also just across the street from homes. Had a stray bullet ricocheted, could someone have been shot, wounded or killed?

At this time there doesn’t seem as if the hunter violated any county ordinances, however the investigation has not been completed.

As for the innocent deer, why would anyone want to kill something that small, that rare, that beautiful and so utterly defenseless?

Rest in peace little one.

  1. Absolutely heartbreaking and disgusting.

Where I used to live, a woman wearing white mittens was shot in the doorway of her home, in front of her twin toddlers by an illegal hunter who thought she was a “white tailed deer”…… her children had to see her die right in front of them AND grow up without her……. I am TOTALLY against hunters firing their guns anywhere near homes and schools……..

It’s bad enough that he killed the neighborhood’s fave deer, who was clearly alone and defenseless…… but firing a gun near homes and a school is beyond wrong……… Throw the book at this hunter. He could have easily killed a person.
