From the moment Ryker’s photo was posted on social media, an entire rescue community in Houston joined together to help a dog so emaciated and covered in mange, sores and abrasions, he was barely able to stand.

“People had been out looking for this boy from the moment his picture was posted. We put a plea out and again the Houston rescue community came together and with team work he was found. This baby was under a house and would no longer get up. They crawled under and managed to get him to safety and straight to the hospital,” Chip N Snip, the rescue organization from Highland, Texas posted on their Facebook page along with the heartbreaking photos of a near death dog.

One of the most puzzling parts of this dog’s rescue continues to elude everyone involved in animal rescue. How many people saw this dog and never reported him to any local animal shelter or animal control? How many people threw things at him to make him move away?

Video is disturbing and graphic, but this is Ryker when he was rescued.

Ryker was rushed to Pearland 288 Emergency Veterinarian Hospital.

“His body is very malnourished and his immune system compromised. This allowed his sugar to drop to a dangerous level.
He has mange of course and serious infections. He was walking earlier today and visible in the community for at least two weeks so his critical decline and being lethargic was very recent. Clearly he has been in bad shape for a while but today his body was just too tired and depleted to get up and look for help anymore. Thankfully today the help was found.”

Updates to follow. As of Friday night, Ryker remains on fluids, antibiotics and pain medication. His kidneys are good, and as terrible as he looks there are some optimistic signs. His sepsis is the primary concern, and he will be receiving medicated baths twice a day – he is not out of the woods.

Get well soon Ryker. Everyone is pulling for you.

  1. He can be my baby. I am excellent at physical and emotional TLC. I’m alone and need a buddy for TV watching, snacks, car rides etc. I don’t know where or how to get this info to the right person. Thanks ❤️ Rhonda
