It may be winter, but it isn’t cold in all parts of the nation – in fact, it was warm enough earlier this week in Florida for an unattended dog, left inside of a parked car, to perish from the heat on a day that climbed into the 70s.
On Monday, a hospital worker was arrested for the death of his dog, who was left in a parked car for five hours. According to multiple sources, 38-year-old Jeffrey Hazen left his two-year-old dog, Biscuit, and his cat, inside of a vehicle while he went to work at a Clearwater hospital.
Hazen went into the hospital around 2:30 in the afternoon and returned to his car at 7:30 – though Biscuit was dead, Hazen did not report what happened, and went back inside to continue working. According to ABC Action News, the incident was reported to Pinellas County Animal Services, who then informed the Clearwater Police.
Hazen claims that he left his car running, but it had shut off when he went to check on his pets. His cat survived, but was severely dehydrated. Hazen is facing a felony animal cruelty charge and was taken to the Pinellas County Jail.
