Ignored to the brink of death
Spread the love

A homeless dog, suffering with an untold number of maladies, wandered the streets of Houston, Texas, until he was at the very brink of death. The dog, dubbed Ryker, was ignored by everyone – for an unknown period of time, no one stopped to offer him assistance.

Ryker is finally off of the streets and receiving veterinary care – the non-profit organization, Chip N Snip writes of the lack of attention this suffering dog endured, while everyone looked the other way:

Ryker didn’t get like this overnight. It didn’t take a week or a month. He walked the streets of Houston a very long time in this condition. How many people saw him and never said a word? How many shooed him away or threw stuff at him to make him leave? Or worse?

Did no one think to pick up a phone? Report him to Barc or county? Offer food or water? Put him in their yard so animal control could pick him up? Until we change the mindset of this city, this will continue to happen. Until we are louder and demand more of our officials, things will not change!

The organization outlined the plethora of maladies that Ryker is facing:

His body is very malnourished and his immune system compromised. This allowed his sugar to drop to a dangerous level.
He has mange of course and serious infections. He was walking earlier today and visible in the community for at least two weeks so his critical decline and being lethargic was very recent. Clearly he has been in bad shape for a while but today his body was just too tired and depleted to get up and look for help anymore. Thankfully today the help was found.

Ryker has a long journey to recovery ahead of him…and there are no guarantees that he will make it. If you are interested in making a donation, you can do so via: PayPal.me/ChipNSnip

  1. What the hell is wrong with the people in Houston? This happens all the time. I know there are good, animal loving people there but it seems like they are vastly outnumbered by people that just don’t give a damn about homeless dogs that desperately need help.

  2. Not just this city–people seem to be turning into “heartless zombies” in many many places. That’s why there are so many angels walking among us like the rescuers of Ryker!
