Hero pit bull died from snake bites protecting children

In Sumter County, Florida, an eight-month-old pit bull died from multiple snake bites on Tuesday whhile protecting his family’s two children from a coral snake. On Monday, Zeus jumped in between the snake and the kids while in the backyard.

According to Fox Orlando, Zeus’ owner, Gary Richardson said the children had been cleaning the dog’s water bowl when the snake approached.

“All of a sudden, he started attacking the snake which was close to my son and he was bit four times,” Richardson stated.

Zeus was rushed to a nearby veterinarian in Ocala and administered the antivenom, however the dog did not survive. The entire family is mourning their puppy’s death; there had been an incredible bond between the family and Zeus since he was born in January.

Richardson owes his son’s life to Zeus’ bravery and loyalty.

Rest in peace brave pup.
