Heart-wrenching neglect: Her name was Hope

Heartwrenching, cruel neglect of puppy

A puppy found in Portage County, Ohio, suffered heart-wrenching neglect. The pup, dubbed Hope, was brought to the Portage Animal Protective League on June 4 – she was nearly unresponsive and cold, so cold that her temperature did not register on a thermometer.

The animal welfare agency recounted the sad situation:

Someone found her near Lake St and brought her to us. Trembling, almost unresponsive, emaciated, and in pain, we immediately called the vet. We couldn’t believe our eyes, and we hoped with all our hearts that she might make it.

Hope was rushed to a veterinarian for emergency care – the prognosis was grim, but her advocates were desperate to give her a chance:

She has clearly been mistreated and has suffered at the hands of humans. To get in this condition would have taken a long time. Maybe we can fix her and she can know love and health?

Care, hope and positive thoughts were not enough to save the horribly mistreated puppy. The next day Hope was in worse condition…colder and completely unresponsive. The veterinarian recommended that she be released from her suffering.

The animal welfare agency is pleading for Hope’s sad story to inspire change…and action. The agency wrote:

We don’t want Hope to have died without anyone being her voice. No one would ever know what happened to her if we didn’t tell her story. We have no idea who did this to her or how long she suffered. We DO know, that her story can help others.

If you see an animal that needs help, CALL! If you have an animal that you can’t take care of, CALL! If you can help someone with their pet, do it! She didn’t need to look like this. Her life could have been saved if someone would have said something. This is unacceptable. Let’s give Hope’s life meaning.

A reward is offered for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of whoever let Hope deteriorate to the brink of death. Anyone with information is asked to call 330-296-4022 ext. 102 or email [email protected].

  1. Disgusting, there is no regard for life anymore by some people. This was just a dog and who cares what happened to it. I hope they find the POS who sat back and allowed this to happen. Rest in peace Hope, you didn’t deserve such a fate.
