In a “heart-rendering” case of animal cruelty, authorities discovered a dead dog trapped in a cage and left deep in the remote area of the woods in Woodbridge, Connecticut on Monday.

According to the Facebook page of the Woodbridge Municipal Animal Control, a young gray and white female pit bull mix, wearing a purple collar, had been left trapped inside of a dog cage with no food, water or protection from the sun or heat in an area where few people ever walked.

“I wish this story had a happy ending. I wish I was given the opportunity to take her and treat her with love and care while searching for a home that would appreciate the gift they were given. I wish I could have saved you,” the Animal Control officer wrote.

The dog had been discovered by a public works employee; the town that she was found in was not shared with the public, however the cruelty of the deed brought tears to everyone’s eyes.

“Today a beautiful female bully type dog was found by a Public Work’s employee in a wooded area in one of our towns. She was found deceased in a crate. There is evidence that she was still alive at the time of the dumping. She was deliberately placed in an area where it would be difficult for her to be found. Someone did this to a living, breathing animal with more of a soul than they could ever wish to possess,” the post continued.

The absolute cruelty of the situation was called out by the officer.

“With so many options available you chose to leave her abandoned and alone at the bottom of a ditch in her crate. What were her chances of being found healthy and alive? With no food, no water, no protection from the sun and the heat we’ve most recently had. The cruelty of humans in this world never ceases to amaze me. You could have left her somewhere to be found. I would have been angry but she would be alive. She didn’t deserve this and you certainly didn’t deserve her.”

Although no one knew this dog personally, officers will lay her to rest properly.

The organization is asking that readers share this information, and anyone that knows a pet owner who recently no longer has that type of dog to report it. A reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this heinous deed. Please call the Woodbridge Regional Municipal Animal Control at 203.389.5991.

Be the voice for those who cannot speak. Help this dog find justice. Rest in peace young one. We are sorry that humans let you down.

  1. The cruel heartlessness of some humans is truly disturbing. Not only abandoning the dog but doing it like this is heartless. I hope someone turns them in, they need to be punished!
