A judge found an 18-year-old teen guilty of animal cruelty on Tuesday after a viral video showed a dog being thrown off an embankment into a rock filled pool of water in Washington Township, N.J. Kyler Fox was fined $750, the maximum sentence for the summary offense.
According to LehighValleyLive, Humane police officer Barbara Morgan reviewed the video on March 4 and concluded the act committed by Fox was dangerous and could have resulted in serious injuries to the dog. Fox denied that his dog, a three-year-old Australian shepherd named Buddy, had been mistreated. He stated the video that went explosive and drew severe social outrage, had been shot years ago and it had been his bitter ex-girlfriend who released the video to Reformers – Advocates for Animal Shelter Change in NJ.
The video was viewed more than 170,000 times. Rebecca Glenn-Dinwoodie, the special prosecutor appointed by the Northampton County district attorney’s office stated:
“The fact that he escaped injury was luck. He knowingly, intentionally and recklessly picked up Buddy and threw him down a four-foot embankment into two feet of water with a rocky bottom.”
Fox’s defense attorney denied there had been any abuse and contended the dog loves the water.

The prosecutors asked Judge Alicia Zito to order Fox to forfeit the dog to animal control, however the dog remains in the custody of the Fox family. It is unknown if Fox will appeal the guilty verdict.
