Grumpy Cat, the internet feline meme whose natural scowl made us all smile has died at age 7 her family reported on Friday.
“Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile around the world — even when times were tough,” her owners said.
According to Grumpy Cat’s official website, the Arizona kitty died from complications of a urinary tract infection. Born Tardar Sauce in April 2012, she became an internet sensation after having been discovered on Reddit. Her annoyed facial expression has been attributed to feline dwarfism.
More than 12 million people followed her antics across social media. On Friday morning, nearly 900 different items were for sale on her online shop.
Rest in peace Grumpy Cat.
