Great Pyrenees left outside by owner in 90 degree heat wave

In Westfield, Indiana, a Great Pyrenees had been left outside by his owner when temperatures soared over 90 degrees late last week. Thankfully, a neighbor, distressed about the dog’s panting and drooling, called Animal Services for help.

“Thankfully there is a local ordinance that requires owners to bring them inside when the temperature is extremely hot or cold. His name is Bear and he is between 5 and 6 years old and lived his entire life on a chain,” posted Indy Great Pyrenees Rescue Director, Jane Rose.

The local shelter was full and had he not been rescued by Indy Great Pyrenees Rescue, Bear would have been euthanized. It seems the owner decided it was easier to surrender the dog rather than bring him inside of the home.

Bear has been described as very sweet and a bit timid. He has fly strikes on the top of his nose, under his ears and his paws were red and bloody when he arrived at the rescue. Since his rescue, Bear’s injuries are healing. This beautiful dog could certainly use a loving home.
