At the Ruin Creek Animal Protection Society of Henderson, North Carolina, Giblet is being cared for after she was abandoned and left on the side of the road to die. Who does that?

“This poor girl was found on the side of the road Thanksgiving Day. She is about 3 years old and only weighs 20 lbs. She is in the care of the veterinary staff right now and she cannot stand on her own as of now. She will need a LOT of medical care over the next week or two. Please help us be able to save her,” the organization posted on their Facebook page as a heartbreaking photo of Giblet went viral.

The Good Samaritan who found her stated the dog had been in a closed blue tote. They passed by it on the side of the road and then decided to turn around. When they opened up the container, Giblet had been wrapped in a bed sheet, and she looked up at her rescuers in gratitude. And as she received compassionate scratches on top of her head, she was even able to wag her tail.

Giblet is now able to stand up on her own, is being fed a special diet and is slowly making progress.

“Great news! Giblet is up and walking 😊 a bit unsteady right now but gaining strength all the time. She was cleared of most medical reasons as to why she would be in this state so starvation intentional or otherwise is most likely the cause. She thanks everyone for their outpouring of love.”
