In the Mead Valley of California, authorities are searching for the owner of a German shepherd after the dog was dragged alongside of a truck and left on the side of a road.

According to a news release from the Riverside County Animal Services, Officer Will Luna responded to a call on July 29 from a citizen concerning a dog that either fell or jumped out of the cargo bed of a Toyota pickup truck. Residents waved and chased the driver of the truck after witnessing the dog being dragged alongside of the truck. When the deputy arrived, the driver of the vehicle stated she had not realized the dog fell out because the woman had been playing loud music. She promised the deputy she would rush the dog to a veterinarian clinic.

The seven-month-old German shepherd named Beauty suffered from abrasions to her paws and abdomen, but for reasons unknown, the dog was abandoned on Carter Drive. Riverside Animal Services were called to pick Beauty up and rushed her to an emergency clinic.

Beauty is currently being treated and remains under the care of Animal Services veterinary team members. Veterinary staffers remove her bandages each evening and treat the wounds and re-apply bandages.

Officer Luna is continuing his investigation and attempting to locate Beauty’s rightful owner.

“It can be shocking what we experience,” Officer Luna said. “But, fortunately, my colleagues are very good at caring for injured, abandoned pets.”

If Beauty’s owner does not come forward, the dog will be made available for adoption.

  1. Surely the officer who initially contacted the dog’s owner asked for identification. This SOB shouldn’t be hard to track down. When he is, throw the book at him. Or, better yet, turn him over to a group of dog lovers. I’ll bet they can come up with a meaningful punishment. I would suggest tying him to a truck and dragging him for, say about 10 miles.

  2. There is a special place in Hell for this woman that would first, put her dog in the back of a truck and secondly, not take the poor thing to the vet and leave her beside the road! I’m sorry but even if Beauty’s owner is found she should NEVER be given back to the POS!
