On Tuesday morning, a gator and a 75-year-old man fought over the family’s golden retriever near a Palm Harbor condominium. Buddy Ackerman had been walking his daughter’s dog Osi when an alligator emerged out of the nearby retention pond in the dark and latched onto the dog.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Ackerman stated he went into a fight mode to save the dog. He kicked the eight-foot gator in the snout, and it released the dog from its jaws.

Osi had been on a retractable leash at 5:30 in the morning when it was still dark. Suddenly Osi started to whimper when Ackerman spotted the gator latching onto the dog. He kicked, and it worked. Osi ran to safety and was not injured.

Trappers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission arrived that same afternoon and captured an alligator similar to the size that bit into Osi.
