A French bulldog puppy named Roger died on an international flight from Amsterdam to Boston after allegedly left without water for 18 hours. The owners of the dog were denied bringing their pet into the cabin on the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight.
According to WcvpNews, Roger’s owners then contacted an agency to arrange transport for a their nine-month-old puppy. On the website of KLM’s regulations, dog breeds such as Roger are not permitted to fly in the holding area.
“Snub-nosed animals such as boxers, Pekinese and Persian cats can have trouble breathing during the flight, due to high temperatures and stress. To ensure their well-being, most snub-nosed animals, may not be transported in the hold. However, they may be transported in the cabin or as cargo. English and French bulldogs, Boston terriers and pugs may only be transported in the cabin.”
The airlines are currently reviewing the circumstances leading to Roger’s death. A necropsy concluded that the puppy died of heat stroke and had likely been deprived of water for 18 hours. The USDA is also investigating the dog’s death.
The couple’s six-year-old son knows Roger is “up in the sky and he will take care of him,” stated the dog’s owner, Andreea Suviena. The dog died on July 26.
Rest in peace Roger.
