Few details have been released, but a woman and her dog who disappeared from a California campground, have been found. At 2:00 p.m. the Inyo County Sheriff’s Department notified Facebook followers that the duo had been located:
Missing hiker, Sheryl Powell was located alive by ground search team members near the Montenegro Springs area (below where her dog was located earlier today). Searchers describe her as resilient and strong but exhausted after being lost in an extremely remote area above Big Pine, CA.
Mrs Powell was met at the Bishop Airport by ambulance and will be taken to the local hospital for medical clearance.
The authorities expressed gratitude to Powell’s family, local residents and the media for their support and coverage of the search efforts. The sheriff’s department also applauded the agencies who participated in the ongoing searches of the “difficult” terrain over the past four days.
Sheryl Powell vanished with her small dog at a campground – her husband left for five minutes to park the car and the pair were gone when he returned. The authorities believed that Sheryl was lost, while her children feared that she had been abducted.
